Extensive field testing for years, in every kind of weather and terrain.
When McLellan engineers became aware of the high failure rate in truck
mounted hose reels, they went to work to find an economical solution. By beefing up the hardware in McLellan reels, and encasing the spring in a hermetically sealed, and permanently lubricated, reservoir, they produced a reel that
not only out performs the competition but costs no more than other quality reels. |

10 Reasons Reels Fail
1. Spring Motors - Because they are exposed to the atmosphere they rust chatter and break! 2. Latching Mechanism - Thin sheet metal or cast aluminum doesn't wear well. 3. Swivel -
Improper design of sealing capabilities causes leaks. 4. Paint - Improper paint preparation causes paint failure! 5. Fairlead - Many reels come equipped with square hose guides that don't reach the full width causing hose
build-up. 6. Base - Pressed sheet metal with Tac-welds will not live due to vibration and cracking. 7. Cheek Plates - Pressed sheet metal with the rim improperly formed or no forming leads to bending and cracking. 8.
Fairlead Arm - If made of light material (pressed tin) when hose returns it will bend both arm and fairlead. 9. Reel Width - Many reel manufacturers make their reels over 8 inches wide! This limits the number of reels in a given
space. 10. Spring Motor Housing - Other reel manufacturers have an open housing, exposing the spring to rust and failure. |
